The study showed that the high level of omega-3 fatty acids astonishingly reduced triglycerides, heart rate, blood pressure and atherosclerosis.

Many researches done subsequently also found that undeniably a balanced Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) support the cardiovascular, reproductive, immune, and nervous systems. They played an important part of a healthy diet; among other things, they help transporting the oxygen to all parts of our bodies through our bloodstreams, develop cell membrane by enabling the cells to obtain optimum nutrition and expel harmful waste products, help processing cholesterol, cleanse our arteries from cholesterol build up, assisting the adrenal and thyroid glands, which may also help control weight.

Omega-3  derived from Animal -base source :

Fish :  cold water oily fish like mackerel, sardines, salmon, herring and anchovies. Consumer of  fish should however consider the mercury laden and fat soluble pollutants like PCB and dioxin. After some extensive reviews, the  Harvard’s School of Public Health even revealed that the benefits of fish consumption generally far outweigh the potential risks.

Krill,  a  family of scrimp, about 2 inches in length  and live in the Antarctic. Although Krill are such small crustaceans, they have crucial role in the global food chain and the Earth’s marine ecosystems.  Krill survive on phytoplankton, microscopic, single-celled plants that float on the ocean’s surface and live off carbon dioxide and the sun’s ray. In return, they become the main diets of hundreds of different animals, like fish, birds and baleen whales. A blue whale eats up to 3.6 tons of krill  and a gray whale eats more than 1 ton each day during their feeding period. The National Geography even concludes that without krill, most of the life forms in the Antarctic would disappear.

During certain times of year, krill congregate in swarms so dense and widespread that they can be seen from space. However some recent studies show that population of Antarctic krill may have declined by 80% since 1970. Scientists attribute the decline as side effect of global warming, which trigger the ice cover loss that removes ice-algae, the main food of Krill.

Seal / Harp :    Seal or harp oil is the most horrible source of Omega-3. Every year hundreds of  thousands maybe millions of seals are “harvested” worldwide for their oil, skins ( fur. pelt  and leather) and meat. Seals hunting occurs in some countries, but  the largest is in Canada. During 2003 - 2005 the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans  (DFO ) had issued  a quota of 975,000 baby and adult seals to be killed plus 30,000 adult hood seals. In 2002, the number of the poor mammals slaughtered in Canada was more than 312,000 exceeding the allowed quota of 275,000.

slaughterAnother report revealed that during 1997 - 1999, 465,000 harp seals in northwest Atlantic were killed, exceeding the birth rate of the mammals, making their population declining. Norway and Russia are other countries that massively killed seal harp. In Russia does not even allocate any quota of this barbaric killing.

You can find a lot  Omega supplement products in the drugstore, made by lots of manufacturers with above various sources. Each of them claims to have more benefits than the others, offers the best omega ratio with additional multivitamin and minerals. There is a silent war on the promotion of this product out there. It’s your choice to select one you think is closest to your need, but taking the environment  into your consideration  will make a wiser choice.

Why kill, when we don’t have to.
