A Green car, run with a green driving way, could significantly cut your CO2 footprint. A green way of washing your car would even double your heroic record on the environment protection. Why? Today, freshwater is a scarce thing on Earth. Of the total amount of water on Earth, only 3% is freshwater.  From this tiny amount, only one third is accessible for use, from which we drink, wash our clothes, flush our toilets, and wash our cars. And it’s estimated that there are 750 million cars on the world’s roads today.  Alas, can you imagine how much water we need to wash them? In US alone, according to the US Bureau of Transit Statistics for 2006 there are 250,851,833 registered passenger vehicles. So exercising water-saving car wash is obviously important to avoid the water crisis worsens. Here are some ways to do that:

  • When washing your car, use sponge, soap and water from a bucket. Hosepipe uses too much water, use it only for rinsing.
  • Choose a shut-off nozzle on your hose that can adjust the water flow, so that water flows only as required.
  • To prevent leaks, check hose connectors to assure plastic or rubber washers are in place.
  • When finished, put it off at the faucet instead of at the nozzle to avoid leaks.
  • Put your car on the grass when washing it, so that you will be watering your lawn at the same time.
  • Use broom to clean leaves or other debris in the drive way instead of hosing down it; using a hose to clean a driveway wastes hundreds of gallons of water.
  • If you want to wash your car in a commercial car wash, choose one which uses recycle water.

Another great water-saving way to wash your car is by waterless car wash or dry wash. Basically it is a hand car wash using not water but a biodegradable spray solution.  All you need to clean a car is about 30 minute’s time, a fiber towel, and a bottle of waterless car wash product.  Waterless car wash solution cleans the car and leaves a protective coating on the car’s surface.  And what most important is, it saves the Earth’s water. A typical car wash might use 20 to 45 gallons at a professional car wash, at home, you might need 140 gallons. In waterless car wash, you only need 2 - 4 ounces of waterless car wash solution to have your car sparkling; so a standard product containing 30 ounces solution can save hundreds of gallons of freshwater.
