Recipes of Homemade Laundry Detergent.

Today many people are using Homemade laundry detergent in purpose to avoid the toxic chemicals generated by the use of detergent. Detergent is proven to be one of the major causes of indoor pollution with various health risks.

Making homemade detergent is not as difficult as what you think; and once you succeed to a make a stock of this non-toxic detergent, you will be having stock of homemade natural detergent that can prevent your home and family from some health risks and air pollution.

What to prepare to make homemade detergent :

  1. Bar soaps with least fragrance or perfume.
  2. Washing soda
  3. Borax.
  4. grater or food processor to grate or blend the soap bar.
  5. Containter : pail, detergent bottles.
  6. Stick to stir the soap mixture. Don’t use your cooking stir spoon, buy one specially to make your homemade detergent.

Above materials can be found at laundry aisles, and for the sake of environment, to store your homemade detergent, it is best to use used fry oil bottles or used ice cream pail. And now, the homemade detergent receipts :

HOMEMADE POWDERED LAUNDRY DETERGENT :

  • 1 bar soap
  • 1/2 cup borax
  • 1/2 cup washing soda.

Finely grate the soap then thoroughly stir it with other ingredients for about 10 minutes… and voila… you will be having 15 ounces eco friendly detergent. Store it on used ice cream or yogurt container.

HOMEMADE LIQUID LAUNDRY DETERGENT :

12 cups water

2 bars soap, finely grated.

1 cup borax
1/4 cup washing soda

Boil the 12 cups of water, add the grated soap, borax and washing soda and stir them until well blended and dissolved.

Optional : You can add 1 table spoon white vinegar to strengthen the cleaning power and 10 drops of essential oils. Add them when the liquid detergent has cooled to room temperature only.

Homemade Laundry Detergent Gel.

Following recipe will make a 3 gallon laundry gel :

- 3 gallons water, boiled.

- 1 cup washing soda

- ½ cup borax

- 1 bar of soap, finely grated.

Add all the ingredients to the boiling water and constantly stir until the soap is dissolved and thick. To add fragrance, you may add a few drops of essential oil.

HOMEMADE LAUNDRY STAIN LIFTER :

Laundry stain lifter needs a stronger cleaning power than just detergent, therefore we have to include a stronger chemical compounds, hydrogen peroxide. Make this recipe as much needed to remove your stain in your cloth. Here is a recipe for one cup of homemade stain remover :

½ cup hot water

¼ cup hydrogen peroxide

¼ cup baking soda.

Mix them all and put it on a spray bottle. Soak or spray to the stain only. Leave for at least 30 minutes before you wash the cloth as usual.

Recipe for deeper / stronger stains remover :

Blend ½ cup ammonia with 2 quarts of water. Add 2 table spoons laundry detergent and stir well. Store in spray bottle, spot to stain then soak overnight.

This detergent may release strong vapor, therefore be sure to use it in ventilated area to avoid air pollution. Never make stain remover in large quantity as it will not keep the potency for long.
